Among the many types of builders for whom J. Gibson McIlvain provides lumber, cabinet makers stand to benefit uniquely from our many avenues of lumber supply since we can provide them with not only hardwood lumber, but also with whatever millwork and architectural plywood they might need, all delivered in a single shipment. From built-in designs and office interiors to residential kitchen cabinets and restaurant build-outs, the needs of cabinet makers are well known to the industry leaders at J. Gibson McIlvain Lumber Company.
Solid Wood for Cabinet Makers

J. Gibson McIlvain carries an impressive variety of domestic and exotic hardwood species, from which cabinet makers can craft solid wood face frame cabinetry construction. In addition to species traditionally used for cabinet making, such as Cherry, Mahogany, Maple, and Red Oak, we also carry an inventory of exotic species and can special order even more, thanks to our decades-long relationships which we’ve forged with sawmills across the globe. Some of our cabinetry customers have requested species such as Teak, Iroko, and Zebra wood. For high-end cabinetry, we can supply solid wood boards for door panels, case sides, and more, all carefully dried in our kilns.
Plywood for Cabinet Makers
For those who use hardwood plywood for panels and cabinet sides, we can supply those materials as well. We fully realize that plywood quality is tied to more than the number of plies and that the grading system in place has many flaws. For that very reason, we have partnered with carefully chosen plywood manufacturers to supply to our valued cabinet-maker customers quality architectural plywood, which has “rock solid cores and only the finest face veneers.”
Millwork for Cabinet Makers
If your cabinet shop has its own millworks operation, we can provide the raw materials you need to do your own millwork; however, we also offer the option of crafting that millwork for you with our own on-site millworks operation. From your custom moulding profiles to door panel profiles and cope and stick door parts, the J. Gibson McIlvain millworks can run virtually whatever you need.

Advice for Cabinet Makers
In addition to supplying you with the unfinished lumber, plywood, and millwork which you need to manufacture fine residential or commercial cabinetry, the lumber specialists at J. Gibson McIlvain can also work with you on value engineering in order to create economical and attainable plans based on our intimate knowledge of lumber species and availability. If one of the species you typically use becomes difficult to source or elevated in price, we can gladly recommend alternatives; Genuine Mahogany is one of the species with which we have worked hard to provide such suggestions.
We hope that you’ll continue to learn more about lumber on our websites as well as contact us about specific questions or lumber needs you may have.
